Company History

Since its foundation in 1946, Taiyo has established itself as a leader in the development and production of emulsifiers, stabilizers, egg and tea based ingredients, and highly functional ingredients for the food and pharmaceutical industries. Today Taiyo manufactures over 2,000 food formulations, processed eggs, fruit preparations, flavorings, emulsifiers, stabilizers and functional ingredients at various manufacturing facilities around the world.

2007   –   FDA confirms GRAS status of Suntheanine®
2006   –   Chinese subsidiary Taiyo Kagaku China Co., Ltd. was established in Shanghai, China.
2006   –   Food Analysis Technology Center established at Taiyo Tokyo office
2006   –   SunActive®Fe receives the New Technology and Food Development Award from the Institution of Japan Food news Company.
2006   –   Received award of "Development Food Functionality Preperation using emulsifier" from Tokai Chemical Industry Association.
2005   –   Taiyo opens "Kogetsu" Restaurant in Yokkaichi Japan.
2005   –   Sponsored the "International Nutrition & Mental Health Symposium."
2004   –   Taiyo Green Power established, forming the worlds largest manufacturer of green tea extracts, following the acquisition of Wuxi Green Power.
2004   –   Taiyo Food (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. was established in Tianjin, China.
2003   –   SunActive® Fe was awarded "Best new product of 2003" at Nutracon.
2003   –   SunActive® Fe receives the NutrAward for Best New Product of the year, Nutracon/Natural Products Expo.
2002   –   Sunactive® Fe was awarded "Industrial Technology Award" at the Osaka Industrial Research Association in Japan.
2000   –   Taiyo’s Nanbu plant certified ISO9001.
2000   –   A first for a Japanese company, Taiyo receives the IFT (Institute of Food Technologists) Industrial Achievement Award for its green tea polyphenols, Sunphenon.
2000   –   Suntheanine® is the recipient of the NutrAward for Best New Product of the Year, Nutracon/Natural Products Expo.
1999   –   Sponsored the “International Mineral and Vitamin symposium”
1999   –   Taiyo receives the Most Innovative Food Ingredient Award from FIE (Food Ingredients Europe) for its iron delivery system, SunActive® Fe
1999   –   Sunactive® Fe was awarded the Food Ingredients Europe Award in Paris.
1998   –   Taiyo’s ingredient Suntheanine®, the unique amino acid L-theanine in its pure form, receives the Food Ingredient Research Award at FIE (Food Ingredients Europe)
1997   –   Taiyo receives the Food Ingredient Research Award at FIE (Food Ingredients Europe) for Sunsial (sialyloligosaccharade)
1996   –   Sponsored the “International Dietary Fiber Symposium”
1995   –   The manufacturing company Kaifeng Jinming Food Co., Ltd. was established in Henan Province, People’s Republic of China
1994   –   North American subsidiary Taiyo International Inc. established
1992   –   Sponsored the International Symposium “Advanced Science for Effective Use of Hen Eggs”
1986   –   Listed on the second section of the Nagoya Stock Exchange
1981   –   Taiyo Kagaku and Taiyo Food merge to form Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd.
1979   –   Taiyo established the independent Mie Food Analysis & Development Center
1978   –   Launched production of instant food products using unique microwave technology
1958   –   Taiyo Food Co., Ltd. established, becoming the first firm in Japan to produce processed egg products on an industrial scale
1949   –   Began production of food flavorings
